In 2015 the African American Composer Initiative commissioned composer John Henry Robinson III to compose a fanfare to open the 2016 concert dedicated to celebrating the music of Dr. Valerie Capers. At home in both the jazz and classical worlds, Robinson composed a fully notated composition in jazz style in this celebratory work of tribute to his mentor and musical collaborator, Valerie Capers.
